This is collage artwork is compromised of magazine pages but the background is specifically based on Latino representation. "Que Dice Mija", roughly translated from Spanish, means "What does it say, daughter?" The concept I wanted to implement with this piece tackles with obstacles that the Latino community has faced, especially in the United States. I used various ideas to tie together the concept like language barriers, media representation, political turmoil, racism, and immigration. The phrase itself reflects a conversation I had with my mother; one in which she had asked me to translate a DACA letter that said that she might be deported if the program were to fall through with Trump's removal of DACA. The magazine clipping of Trump supporters is centered between the words to visualize the division the political stigma has created amongst Latinos. The background, however, reveals Latino prominence showing that despite these obstacles, we will continue to rise above and conquer them.
