This painting was an experimental study on one of my close friend's dog, named Frida. I used Blick markers and pencil to finish the final piece. I was inspired to use Frida as my subject because of how much she reminded me of my community. Chihuahuas are engraved in Mexican culture as they were once worshipped by Aztec tribes. However, her name is also an additive to the content because my friend had named her after the Mexican Artist, Frida Kahlo, whom is a grand staple to Mexican art and Modernism. Frida, the dog, is a symbol of Mexican culture and history, showing how it hasn't died but instead evolved into a more modern way of life, exhibiting that the essence of Mexican culture is still around us subtly.
